Pre-Mediation
Summary process cases are usually called in the First Session courtroom. Pick up the list of cases for the day from the clerk’s office. Check in with Caroline Field in the judge’s lobby to confirm that you may use the library as the mediation room. Inform the calling clerks in the courtroom that you are a mediator. Take a seat in the sunken area near the judge’s bench. There are usually attorneys sitting around in the same area. The calling clerk will proceed to call out the cases and assign them to mediation
Post-Mediation
If the case is settled, the parties and the court file should go to Caroline for review, and she will make copies in the library or civil clerk’s office. If the case does not settle, the file should be handed to her explaining that the case needs to be heard.
