Bryant University has asked me to work with faculty in the Department of English and Cultural Studies to identify challenges facing the Department, and use mediation and facilitation processes to build trust and improve working relationships and collegiality within the Department.

In preparation for what I hope will be a productive process, I would appreciate if you would take a few moments to answer the following questions and share your views about the state of the Department of English and Cultural Studies. The purpose of these questions is to provide you with an opportunity to share your perspective about the challenges facing the Department.

3. Assuming you agree with the premise that there is conflict within the Department, where do you think this conflict comes from?
4. If this intervention is successful, what would be accomplished? Please be specific.

Moving from the challenges facing the Department, as a whole, to any interpersonal differences that might exist, are there specific members of the Department who you think should resolve their differences in a mediation process? If so, whom? (The assumption being that the Department, on its own, can’t find a resolution to unresolved disputes between individual members.)
