Jen G. Sims
Jen G. Sims brings more than 20 years of conflict management and collaboration experience to her work with organizations, helping people make sense of difficult situations, consider multiple perspectives, and identify constructive next steps.
About Jen
Jen G. Sims has provided conflict management and collaboration services as an external consultant and professional neutral to diverse organizations across different industries for more than 20 years.
She has been a mediator in Hawaii and Texas since 2005 and has facilitated large, complex public policy issues.
Previously, Jen founded and directed the Staff Ombuds Office for the University of Texas, leading the office for more than six years.
Approach
Jen is an ombuds because she believes people want to do good work and be respected. While conflict is inevitable, she sees it as an opportunity for positive change, learning, and professional development.
Her practice emphasizes informal methods for addressing situations that are not working well for visitors.
Jen applies observation skills, deep listening, inquiry, sense-making, and pattern assessment to help visitors uncover possible responses and consider constructive options.
Background
Before becoming an ombuds, Jen served in administrative, teaching, and research roles with the Hawaii State Judiciary and the University of Hawaii.
Her experience spans mediation, public policy facilitation, higher education, court-connected work, organizational consulting, and professional neutral services.
Across these roles, Jen has helped people and organizations approach conflict with curiosity, perspective-taking, and practical attention to what may help a situation move forward.
