Michael Stephens is an experienced Organizational Ombuds, mediator, and coach who helps foster good working relationships and more positive organizational cultures.

He has significant ombuds experience in both corporate and academic settings and is a member of the International Ombuds Association.

Michael worked for many years as an ombuds, and as a manager of other ombuds, at Merck, a multinational pharmaceutical company.

His background in human resources, mediation, coaching, facilitation, and change management allows him to support both individual visitors and organizations working through complex workplace dynamics.

Background

Prior to his ombuds work at Merck, Michael held human resources roles at Merck and several other companies.

After retiring from Merck, he served as ombuds for Amherst College and Smith College.

Michael holds a certification in mediation from the Mediation Training Institute.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Colorado and a Master of Business Administration from New York University.
