About Birthe
Birthe C. Reimers, Ph.D., is an Organizational Ombuds, mediator, coach, and published conflict scholar-practitioner with nearly two decades of experience helping individuals and institutions navigate conflict constructively.
Since January 2018, she has directed the Office of the Ombudsperson at Georgia State University, the largest public university in Georgia.
In recognition of her contributions to the field, Birthe received the Association for Conflict Resolution’s 2023 William J. Kreidler Award for Distinguished Service to Expanding Knowledge in Conflict Resolution.
Approach
Birthe serves as a confidential thought partner, conflict coach, and facilitator of challenging conversations for administrators, faculty, staff, students, family members, and alumni.
Her work emphasizes empowering people with the analytical and practical tools needed to engage conflict productively while strengthening communication, relationships, and organizational effectiveness.
Beyond individual support, Birthe helps organizations learn from conflict by identifying trends, surfacing systemic concerns, and providing constructive feedback that contributes to healthier organizational cultures.
Background
Birthe earned her Ph.D. in International Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University in 2015 and has been a member of the International Ombuds Association since 2016.
As Director of Georgia State University's Office of the Ombudsperson, she supports a diverse university community across seven campuses while helping leadership understand emerging campus climate and organizational culture trends.
She regularly develops and facilitates workshops focused on conflict management, communication, and constructive engagement, equipping participants with practical skills they can immediately apply in their work and relationships.
Birthe is also an active contributor to the ombuds profession through scholarship and publication, including her most recent article published in the Journal of the International Ombuds Association in 2024.
