Courthouse Mediation Procedures

Follow these court-specific steps when conducting an in-person mediation at South Boston Municipal Court.

Step 1

Pre-Mediation

When arriving for a Small Claims session, go to the Clerk’s Office, which is directly to the left after you walk up the stairs.

Identify a mediation space before meeting with the parties. You may be able to use the empty courtroom on that floor or another room identified by court staff.

Step 2

During Mediation

The clerk’s assistant will let the parties know that the mediators have arrived.

After the case list has been called, the parties will be directed to meet the mediators in the hallway. Bring the parties to the designated mediation room.

Step 3

Post-Mediation

After the mediation, whether or not an agreement was reached, bring the case file to the ground-floor courtroom and return it to the clerk or judge who referred the case.

Copies of completed mediation documents can be made in the Clerk’s Office. Leave the courthouse with a copy of the paperwork for MWI’s records.

Add the case information and upload the paperwork under the court case in the portal. If you have trouble uploading the documents or mediated multiple cases during the same session, email the scans to courtmediation@mwi.org.
