Dispute Resolution Training for Staff of the Probate and Family Court Department

This remote training will provide information to staff about court-connected dispute resolution services as it relates to the Pathways case management approach to resolving cases earlier, connecting court users with appropriate resources, simplifying processes, and offering broader dispute resolution options to be utilized in the Probate and Family Court Department.

Participants Will Leave the Training with a Better Understanding of:

  • Pathways overview, process, and staff expectations and responsibilities
  • Mediation, conciliation, and dispute intervention; including the advantages of each and the principles of each (confidentiality, self-determination, informed consent, role of counsel, and styles from facilitative to evaluative)
  • Which programs are approved providers for each type of ADR, what their costs are as well as their capabilities of providing services in different languages
  • How to refer and connect court users to the correct ADR service
  • How to share ADR information with the public
  • What happens during Screening
  • Research related to:
    • Ways to respect and connect with people of diverse backgrounds
    • Tips for dealing with people caught in conflict
    • Empathy
    • Power imbalances
  • How ADR options support the Pathways case management approach
