This advanced mediation training is designed for experienced mediators
interested in helping tenants and landlords resolve housing and eviction
disputes while gaining experience mediating cases in MWI's BMC & District
Court Mediation Program.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED
This training will focus on special considerations mediators
face when mediating eviction cases including; homelessness and the challenge of
property ownership; landlord - tenant relationships; protecting the rights of
both parties and working with the law; agreement writing and mediating eviction
cases from BMC & District Court Departments. Trainees will participate in supervised
role-plays, exercises, group discussions and simulations. There will also be
guest speakers from the legal and housing communities.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
- Mediators looking to gain new skills and experience
mediating eviction cases in court. MWI has immediate opportunities
for mediators who successfully complete this training;
- Professionals working in the housing field interested in
learning more about Massachusetts Landlord-Tenant Law and Summary Process
procedure and how mediation can be used to resolve housing disputes;
- Individuals interested in understanding the mediation
process and landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities.
PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE
- "MWI's Summary Process Resource Manual." A
comprehensive overview of Massachusetts landlord tenant law and eviction
procedure;
- A total of 16 hours of mediation training including opportunities
to mediate with supervision.

REGISTRATION AND COST
There is no charge for experienced mediators who can commit to
mediating two or more times per month. Training tuition for all other
participants is $350 per person (or $300 with early registration.) Space is
limited to 12 participants.

PREREQUISITES
Mediators interested in voluntary mediation opportunities in
court must have completed at least 30-hours of basic mediation
training and have experience with at least ten cases in the past two
years. There are no prerequisites for other participants.
